Following a spike in alcohol-related violence in Kununurra in WA’s north-west, police introduced liquor restrictions which hospital staff have welcomed.
Police recently banned the take-away of full strength alcohol for 5 days from last Tuesday and in that time hospital staff say they have seen a 50 per cent reduction in alcohol related attacks.
Police say the intervention led to a decrease in crime reports from 26 to 10 and also reduced the number of calls to police for assistance by half.
