While many parents believe its “safer” to give their kids alcohol than let them sneak around and buy it themselves and then drink it behind their backs with friends, a new study suggests this strategy is not effective for protecting teenagers from the risks of alcohol abuse.

The study published in The Lancet found that teenagers who were supplied alcohol by their parents were twice as likely to find alcohol from other sources the following year.
The researchers also found that 81 per cent of teens involved in the study who received alcohol from their parents reported binge drinking as compared with 62 per cent of teens who received alcohol from non-parent sources.
The study also found that teenagers who received alcohol from their parents were more likely to have symptoms of alcohol use disorder than those who received no alcohol. Read more at https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2018/03/dont-give-your-teens-alcohol/
