    Deputy Premier and Attorney-General Paul Lucas today announced over $8,0=0 worth of Bligh Government grants for three liquor accord groups in the W=de Bay Burnett region.

    These grants are part of $100,000 in funding from the Liquor Accords Financ=al Assistance Program that has been provided to liquor accord groups acros= the State.

    Major Wollongong CBD nightspots left out of a scheme designed to tackle booze-fuelled crime should be made mandatory members, the police union says.

    Last year, Wollongong’s entertainment district was one of eight singled out by the former Keneally government for inclusion in the Hassle Free Nights scheme.

  • Takeaway grog initiative helps cut crime

    Newman police are working with the Newman Liquor Accord to reduce the number of alcohol-related incidents in the town. Senior Sergeant Shane Sadler says liquor outlets have agreed to refuse to sell takeaway alcohol to people on foot.

    He says the strategy has been in place for about a month. Sergeant Sadler says it has reduced the number of people loitering in the centre of town drinking alcohol.
