Home-made Alcohol from Vegemite a Problem in NT

It seems people in dry communities across Queensland and The Northern Territory are resorting to crafty means to get their hands on alcohol.

Vegemite which is a yeast extract is being used to make alcohol and the problem is apparently so severe in some areas of the NT that people are purchasing 20 jars of the sandwich spread in a day.

Authorities say local communities must take greater care in restricting the excessive sale of high yeast products such as Vegemite.
