South Australian police want bar and club staff to be subjected to alcohol and drug testing on the job.
This recommendation was made as part of a major rewrite of the state’s liquor laws.
The Police Commissioner, Grant Stevens revealed the proposal recently which was part of a submission made by SA Police last year.
The submission had to apparently remain confidently until last Monday at the instruction of government ministers.
The submission argues for bar staff to be tested for drugs and alcohol on the job, stating that in a number of instances, staff were too intoxicated to perform their duties.
The submission also recommends,
- imposing 2am CBD lockout
- implementing “3 strikes police” similiar to the one in NSW
- restricting trading hours in “trouble” areas
- being cautious when expanding small bar licences to suburbs
