Scientists have identified alcohol and sugar molecules on the Lovejoy Comet.
Ethyl alcohol and a simple sugar called glycolaldehyde were detected on the comet, believed to be part of the rocky material from which planets are formed.
The research was done using a 30-metre long telescope at the Institut de Radioastronomie Millimetrique in Sierra Nevada, Spain earlier this year.
