There are fears that the NSW RBT breathalyser can be triggered by perfume, toothpaste, aftershave, mouthwash and hand sanitiser.
It appears that some motorists who were innocent, could have been unfairly accused of drink driving.
NSW Police altered their system of roadside breath testing in 2008 for more drivers to be tested. Motorists pulled over for an RBT are first told to count to five or 10 in what is called a presumptive, or screening test.

Victorian drink drivers that blow over .10 could lose their cars under tough new penalties.
As the tough new drink driving penalties are rolled out by police across the state, drivers who are caught over the limit (.10 and above) face having their vehicles impounded.
Due to the crackdown, its is estimated that at least 67 new drivers a week will have their vehicles confiscated.

A new study has revealed that Alcopops tax has cut drinking and harm.
According to the study the tax on Alcopops has significantly reduced the numbers of highly intoxicated young people presenting to hospital emergency departments.
It has also reduced the number of people binge drinking across the state of NSW.

A study has found that one third of adults in the United States are affected by alcohol-use disorder.
Alcohol-use disorder is not the same as alcohol abuse. Alcohol-use disorder (AUD) is defined as problem drinking that causes mild to severe distress or harm.
The study found that only 20 per cent of those suffering with the disorder ever seek help.

A community group in Hunter, NSW has launched a toolkit to help African communities within the Hunter area with alcohol related problems. The task force is the first of its kind and will be based out of Newcastle.
They aim to provide help tackling alcohol issues among newly arrived African immigrants after it was noticed that some of these immigrants were battling with alcohol and drugs issues and settling in.

New research has emerged which links nicotine use to alcohol consumption. Researchers at the Scripps Research Institute say that in rats, nicotine exposure actually promotes alcohol dependence. The same is probable of humans.

Adults in Western Australia who give alcohol to children without their parents’ consent will face hefty fines. The new law has been given consent by the WA cabinet.
As early as next week the fine applied in WA could be up to $10,000.
