More than 80 people have died from poison alcohol in Mumbai so far, with the death toll expected to rise further as more people are hospitalised. Police have made arrests in relation to smuggling and sale of the toxic alcohol.
Scientists have found that excessive alcohol consumption could be more deadly for women over 75 than men.
Researchers found that women over the age of 75 could be more prone to heart attacks.
The study was conducted by researchers at Harvard Medical School, taking into consideration the drinking habits of 4,466 people.

A federal committee has found that the banned drinker register should be reinstated in The Northern Territory.
The Alcohol, Hurting People and Harming Communities report handed down by the House Standing Committee on Indigenous Affairs, which has been travelling around Australia for the past 18 months recommended that the controversial register be reinstated in The NT. It was one of 23 recommendations made about alcohol related harm in Indigenous Communities.

A new study has revealed that the number of young women drinking to dangerous levels is rising.
The number of young women presenting at hospital has risen, a study has shown.
Whereas the number of men who presented in hospital due to alcohol rose by 30 per cent, the number of women rose by 44%.

A study by Cambridge researchers revealed that alcohol consumption doesn’t affect work performance as long as you get enough sleep.

The NSW government is currently reviewing the 10pm curfew on take-away alcohol which it introduced only one year ago in an effort to tackle alcohol fuelled violence in entertainment districts particularly.
The government identified pre-loading as one of the major culprits in alcohol fuelled violence and thereafter implemented the 10pm closure of bottleshops in January 2014.
Due to complaints about the revenue impact of the 10pm takeaway sales curfew, the measure is under review, one year earlier than it should have been. The review was scheduled for February 2016.
