  • Study Says James Bond was an Alcoholic

James Bonds may be known for his inability to die but if he were a real life person he would have died from some alcohol related disease by now.

According to a new study out of New Zealand, James Bond has a serious drinking problem.

Scientists have found that not only was James Bond ready to drink anything, he also engaged in dangerous activities while under the influence.

He drank before fights, driving, gambling, operating machinery, performing extreme athletic acts, making contact with dangerous animals and even using dangerous weapons, according to Professor Nick Wilson from the University of Otago.

Some of the animals James Bond contended with immediately after drinking included snakes, komodo dragons and tarantulas.

While James Bond’s life may seem like a dream to some, idolizing his lifestyle, you may not want to take your drinking habits from the character.

  • Young People Less Likely To Seek Help For Alcohol Problems

According to the What’s Up In Your World survey, nine per cent of young people feel they needed help for alcohol problems. Unfortunately only one third of these people actually go out and seek help.

Professor Maree Teesson from the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre has been studying why young people are struggling with problem drinking and it seems most young people although they recognise the need for help, wont actually ask for help.

According to Teesson, it usually takes 18 years from when someone starts having problems with alcohol to seeking treatment.

Professor Teesson says there’s a stigma around alcohol and only the really brave young people will actually seek help.

She said another problem is that people don’t feel like things will work for them if they go and seek help.

The survey also found young people are drinking less than they were a year ago, but when they do drink, they’re doing so to get drunk.

  • A Cure to The Hangover May Finally Be Here

Although a lot of people enjoy a tipple every now and then many people are deterred from drinking alcohol because of the hangover the next day. For some people all it takes is one drink to develop a throbbing headache or other hangover related symptoms. There may help in sight.

A chemical engineering  professor and wine enthusiast Yufeng Lu from the University of California, Los Angeles decided to tackle this problem and help people enjoy a couple of drinks without the fear of a hangover.

Lu developed capsules filled with natural enzymes usually found in liver cells to help the body process the alcohol quicker.

Testing the antidote on mice has proven promising so far with the capsules decreasing blood alcohol levels in inebriated mice by 45 per cent.

It is possible to drink less and enjoy it more, by being more mindful of our drinking we can cut back or even abstain for Dry July.Even if giving up alcohol for a month isn’t your thing, you can cut down or opt for few alcohol free days in the week, which is good for your health.

According to neuropsychologist Dr Nicola Gates from the University of NSW,it is possible to manage your alcohol intake by getting a handle on how much alcohol you really need.

Do you really know how many standard drinks are in that one “glass” of wine you poured yourself? Most people don’t.

For example Gates explains that while 10g of sauvignon blanc at around 11 per cent alcohol equates to around 100mls of wine, 10g of a more potent red wine (around 14 or 15 per cent alcohol) is more like 88 mls.

Gates recommends looking on the bottle or pack to see how many standard drinks it contains. If a bottle of red wine at 14 per cent alcohol says it contains 8.5 standard drinks (rather than the 7.5 standard drinks in a bottle of white at 11 per cent), it’s best to pour a smaller glass.
