  • Metropolitan Pubs Do Better Than Regional Pubs

    Corporate Advisory firm Ferrier Hodgson recently reported that only 69 per cent of regional pubs were confident about future trading profitability, yet the majority of pubs in the metropolitan were more optimistic.

    Most of the country’s hospitality sector is booming, with pubs in metropolitan areas confident about future trading, whereas pubs in regional areas cited declining populations and the aging of hoteliers as part of the problem.

  • Finding Your Best Wine Could Lie in Your Chocolate Preference

    A subscription service that’s been developed by 2 MIT grads and has been running for about a year now, could be the answer to getting to know your wine preferences.

    The service called Bright Cellars, asks your favourite chocolate and flavour preferences, like dark chocolate, milk chocolate, orange, strawberry, peach etc. without asking direct wine questions. It then uses an algorithm to determine what wines you would like best.

  • Figures Show 11 SA Drivers Caught Six Times Over the Legal Limit

    In the past 15 months there have been eleven drivers caught driving more than six times over the legal limit in South Australia.

    South Australian police say drivers with extreme blood alcohol levels between 0.330 and 0.400 were caught 11 times in the past 15 months. Two of those drivers recorded readings of 0.400, while the other nine drivers recorded blood alcohol levels between 0.330 and 0.370.

    Australian wines are amongst the best in the world and the latest Decanter World Wine Awards is evidence of that.

    Five Australian wines have won at the international awards during which 35 International Trophies were awarded from a total of 15,929 wines tasted at the beginning of the judging process.

  • Try this new Gin Cocktail Recipe

    With a resurgence in the popularity of gin, here is a cool way to incorporate it into your cocktail menu. Okay so it isn’t new, but it will probably be new to most of your patrons as it was once popular in the Prohibition era but hasn’t been since then, I wonder why given that its so delicious.

    Ingredients

    • 50ml gin
    • 10ml runny honey (use the best you can, its flavour will shine)
    • 5ml water
    • 15ml fresh lemon juice

    Directions

    Stir the honey into the water until dissolved to make a syrup. Pour into a cocktail shaker with the gin, lemon juice and a couple of ice cubes. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass.
