  • When to Worry About Your Alcohol Consumption

If you’re starting to be concerned about your drinking or if people around you are concerned, chances are you should take a look at how much you’re really consuming.

According to an article on GQ magazine’s website, men should not be drinking more than 21 units of alcohol per week, and even less for women.

Men should avoid drinking more than 4 units of alcohol a day and women half of that. We should also have at least 2 days a week, completely free of alcohol.

One unit is 10ml of pure alcohol, so one pint of regular strength larger has 2 units. A strong lager has 3 units and 1 bottle of wine has 7 units. Check the labels if you’re not sure.

  • Can You Drink Alcohol if You Have A Cold?

We’ve all heard that you shouldn’t work out or overexert yourself when you have a cold but should you drink alcohol?

PopSugar recently discussed the issue with Dr Michael Albert, MD, FACP, chief of internal medicine, Johns Hopkins Community Physicians,to find out if drinking alcohol with a cold is bad for you.

According to the doctor heavy alcohol consumption suppresses the immune system and this could cause you to take longer to recover from the cold. You could also be more likely to develop a complication such as pneumonia.

Light and moderate drinking has the same effect but to a lesser extent on the immune system. Doctors have even found that people who drink daily seem to catch illnesses such as colds more often.

Some people like drinking alcohol when they’re sick because it temporarily reduces pain but these effects are minimal.

Also keep in mind that alcohol can react with cold medicines and put your health at risk. See more at https://www.popsugar.com.au/fitness/Can-You-Drink-Alcohol-When-You-Have-Cold-44623308
