  • RSA Certificate For People Who Want To Work In Queensland

In QLD it is obligatory (since 1st Jan 2009) for specified people involved in Queensland’s liquor sector to have a current RSA training course certificate.

The certificate must be issued by an Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) approved trainer. Our trainer is an OLGR accepted trainer.

Staff involved in the serving or supply of liquor include approved managers, bar staff, glassies, floor hostesses and room service workers.

New personnel have 30 days to get their RSA training course certificate, which will be legitimate for three years.

QLD will recognise an interstate ‘statement of attainment’ in SITHFAB009A to offer Responsible Service of Alcohol. However you will also have to finish an RSA bridging module either on the web or face to face. This will be coming shortly.

Every single day, people who serve alcohol may possibly be at risk of being fined hundreds of Australian dollars. When you have your official RSA certificate you can avoid this possibility by figuring out what it is to serve alcohol responsibly and do the best by your patrons, other personnel and oneself.

RSA Certificate –  The Responsible Service Of Alcohol Course(RSA) certificate is something most employees concerned in the sale or services of alcohol in Australia are required to have.

RSA Certificate For Responsible Service Of Alcohol

The RSA certificate is obtainable upon effective completion of an RSA training program. Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) provide the program on the internet or in person. RTOs such as Urban E Learning are found throughout Australia and are accredited to supply the training in different states and territories by the individual liquor authorities.

Every single state and territory has its own liquor authority, so the RSA training can differ dependent on which state or territory you are doing work or dwelling in. The nationally recognised course Offer Responsible Service of Alcohol (SITHFAB009A) is what RTOs are accredited to teach.

Even so, some states and territories, the ACT, NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland, demand that an RTO be accredited by their liquor authority before the organisation can present an RSA certificate for effective completion of the Responsible Service Of Alcohol Training (SITHFAB009A).

Meanwhile in WA, NT, and SA the unit of competency, achieved in any state or territory, is an RSA qualification that can be used throughout Australia.

In SA the unit of competency, no matter where acquired, is a component of the State’s application process to become an Authorized Responsible Person. Every state and territory liquor authority supplies a list of RTOs that they have accredited to provide RSA teaching appropriate to their region online. This data is also offered at the Federal Government’s National Training Information Service (NTIS), an on-line training sign-up available to the public.

The RSA Certificate course teaches personnel:

    • How to responsibly provide alcohol
    • How to responsibly sell alcohol
    • How to ensure responsible usage of alcohol
    • How to support a person affected by alcohol over usage
    • When it is acceptable to refuse a man or woman service

The RSA certificate is awarded on the successful completion of this study course and is a lot more than a license to function behind a bar. Expertise learnt throughout the RSA coaching are critical tools of the trade and instruct best practice. Numerous state and territory liquor authorities have declared their introduction of obligatory RSA training to create a safe attitude toward alcohol in communities. In all states and territories you can get your RSA certificate on-line or in person through an RTO. Except Tasmania, where the State’s liquor authority accepts only in person RSA courses.

On-line the certificate takes up to three hours to finish, soon after which you can simply print out your RSA certificate. Although in person the course can take between 3 and six hrs to complete, the RTO trainer will then present you with your RSA certificate.

  • Doing An RSA Refesher Course Online

In some states of Australia your RSA qualification only lasts for a certain amount of time and then you need to do an RSA refresher course. Which is effectively doing the RSA certificate again.

In Queensland your RSA certificate lasts for 3 years and other states may change how long theirs is valid for at any time.

If you did your original certificate online then you will know how quick and easy it is. If you did your original course face to face then you will probably not be to keen to do that again so soon. Doing the course online will save you time and money.

If you have been working in the industry for the last 3 years then the course will be super easy as you will be really familiar with the rules and regulations and find the questions really easy.

    Alcohol Course Video

You may be wondering why someone would need to do an online course on the responsible service of alcohol. Surely everyone would know what to do and people would drink responsibly? Well in an ideal world this would be the case for everyone. But sometimes some people just don’t know how to drink responsibly and other people may just have a bad day and it may be a one off.

Have you ever had a friend or someone you know who has injured themselves by being too drunk and then walking in front of a car or maybe had a near miss. I once witnessed someone who was lying down on the road and as I was approaching them from across a car park they did get off the road, this only about 20 seconds before a car came round the corner at a normal speed but would have been to fast to break and not hit the person.

In all cases if you were the client then you would hope that someone else would look out for you and if you have had enough tell you that, or refuse to serve you.

So that is why the responsible service of alcohol course exists. It is a way to ensure that people who for whatever reason are unable to look after themselves that day will not be put at risk of harming themselves or others by excessive over consumption of alcohol.

Unfortunately accidents happen when people are drunk and drive but also in some cases when people are too drunk and walk.

    • You may just trip over and injure yourself
    • you may walk in front of a car
    • you may try and climb a wall or fence and fall off
    • yo may fall over a balcony or other height

However most people do drink responsibly and so it is not a major part of a persons job in most establishments. However it is important to know what to do and what the rules are so that you can do the best by yourself and your clients.

The responsible service of alcohol course teaches you all the rules and regulations and what is required to do your job effectively while working serving alcohol in a bar or in some other establishment.
