    According to a study by the University of California spanning 30 years  people over the age of 65 that drink up to 3 alcoholic drinks daily can live longer and avoid dementia.

    Researchers claim that moderate to heavy drinkers are more likely to live to the age of 85 without dementia or other cognitive impairments than non-drinkers.

    This study comes after news that Queen Elizabeth II drink four alcoholic beverages a day.

    Researchers were careful to warn drinkers that excessive alcohol intake can actually cause alcohol-related dementia.

  • Black Pearl in Melbourne Named Best International Cocktail Bar

    A Melbourne Bar “Black Pearl” has won the Best International Cocktail Bar title at the 2017 Spirited Awards held in New Orleans.

    The establishment happens to be celebrating its 15th birthday next month.

    The bar recently also won Best Cocktail List in 2016 at the Australian Liquor Industry Awards (ALIA), also having won Best Bar in 2015.

    The Spirited Awards recognise the best writers, brand ambassadors, bartenders and bars internationally. The winners are chosen by 2 panels of more than 100 industry experts.

  • Shocking Number of People Dying from Alcohol Abuse

    New research reveals that tens of thousands of people in England are dying from the effects of alcohol abuse. Heavy drinking now will lead to problems like liver failure and in the next five years, almost 63,000 people will die from similar effects.

    Experts have called on the British government to crack down on alcohol advertising and pricing, to avoid thousands of deaths between 2017 and 2022.

    The findings came out of Sheffield University’s Alcohol Research Group who also discovered that treatment for misuse will cost the government £16.74 billion within the same time frame.

  • Is Alcohol Altering Your Personality?

    While we know alcohol has a way of making us more outgoing, are we aware of how much our own personalities change when we drink?

    According to a study by a team of psychologists from Missouri, we see ourselves differently when drunk to how others see us.

    The study examined the behaviour of 156 participants before and after drinking, with half of the group being given alcohol and the other half given a non-alcohol drink.

    Participants were questioned on what they thought their personality traits were when they were intoxicated as compared to when they were sober and according to researchers the most surprising revelation was that people’s personalities didn’t change as much as they thought.

  • Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Linked to Youth Deaths

    According to a coronial inquest, foetal alcohol spectrum disorder is a major problem contibuting to mental health problems and suicide among WA’s youth.

    While we’ve long been aware that pregnancy drinking and resulting foetal alcohol spectrum disorder leads to facial and physical abnormalities in the child, we only now becoming aware of the link to youth suicide.
