Two men recently drowned while attempting to swim across a lake after drinking alcohol in Melbourne’s north.

Despite the efforts of a friend as well as a former lifeguard who tried to come to their rescue, the 2 could not be saved.

Police say the victims were a 19 year old man from Mernda and a man in his thirties who had been drinking at Mill Park with a group of friends. The men then decided to try and swim across the lake.

Police recovered the bodies of the 2 men later that night.

This tragedy highlights the risks of mixing alcohol and water.
