Proposed lockout laws in Queensland would see a ban on serving shots after midnight, which the distilled alcohol industry is understandably upset about.
The Distilled Spirits Industry Council of Australia (DSICA) condemned the proposed laws saying in a submission to the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee that the proposed changes were “based on flawed assumptions”.
The DSICA called for more education surrounding the effects of alcohol but said it supported the overall objectives of the Proposed Bill and also shared in the state government’s concerns around irresponsible drinks promotions and alcohol fuelled misconduct.
