  • Expert At Alcohol Hearing says Alcohol No Excuse for Violence

    The Royal Commission into Family Violence heard that alcohol and drug incidents are on the rise, with police reports as proof of this.

    The Victorian royal commission is examining what role drugs and alcohol play in domestic violence.

    According to police, in the year leading up to June 2014, they attended more than 23,000 family violence incidents where the perpetrator was alcohol-affected (35.7 per cent of all family violence police callouts). However experts and professors say that alcohol alone cannot be blamed and alcohol is no excuse for aggressive behaviour.

  • Can You Have One Glass of Wine While Pregnant?

    We’ve heard so many mixed messages about whether or not moderate drinking during pregnancy is acceptable or not that many pregnant women are confused, with many making the wrong choices.

    In November 2012 a study was released that showed that even light drinking during pregnancy was dangerous and could severely harm the unborn baby.

    Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is the condition that affects thousands of babies every year and can show itself as abnormal appearances, short height, low body weight, small head, poor coordination, low intelligence, behaviour problems and problems with hearing or seeing.

  • ACT Government Cracking Down on Alcohol Fuelled Crime

    The ACT government may resort to earlier lockouts and raising alcohol prices in an effort to curb alcohol-related crime.

    Canberra’s pubs and clubs may be forced to close earlier following the release of a discussion paper to gauge the community and industry’s opinions on what should happen next.

    The Hotel’s Association says the state government is being unfairly influences by anti-alcohol campaigners and also accused them of sending mixed messages to the alcohol/ hospitality industry.

  • Legal Drinking Age in Australia in Question Again

    We know that as servers of alcohol we cannot serve alcohol to anyone under the age of 18. But is this drinking age the right one? Are 18 year olds, old enough to make responsible decisions about drinking? According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Research Fund, they are not and the legal drinking age in Australia should be raised to 21.

    According to a report by the group, raising the legal drinking age will help curb alcohol related violence and abuse.
