  • New Zealand Alcohol Safety Group wants Alcohol Sachet Banned

    An alcohol safety group is concerned about the effects of sachets of alcohol and wants the products banned. The group together with Auckland Councillor Cathy Casey are advocating for the ban of  25 millilitre alcohol sachets.

    There are fears that the tiny sachet could be easily smuggled into events with alcohol restrictions.

  • What Happens When You Have a Drink After a Work Out

    Although it has become common to have a beer or glass of wine after a work out, is it good for you?

    According to experts it is important to stay hydrated after a work out, but drinking water is best.

    Jakob Vingren, PhD, an associate professor of kinesiology and biology at the University of Texas having 1 drink after a workout is fine, it shouldn’t have too much of a negative effect but 3 or more drinks may have a negative effect on your workouts.

    Dr Vingren says drinking could make you feel fatigued faster during your next workout and it can reduce your protein synthesis, which could slow the process of muscle regrowth.

    If you want a good, restful night’s sleep, then skip the night cap.

    As professor of psychology Richard Wiseman explains, having a drink before bed is fairly common and many people who suffer with insomnia rely on a glass of their favorite tipple before bed.

    But drinking alcohol before going to sleep may actually inhibit you from falling into a deep sleep and when you wake up the next morning you may be groggy and tired.

    Employers may be wary to serve alcohol to employees at staff parties following a decision made by Fair Work recently.

    Fair Work made the decision that a man was unfairly dismissed by his employer, who let him go after he got drunk, sexual harassed someone and told his bosses to “f— off” at a Christmas party.

    A recent alcohol study shows that moderate alcohol consumption is a boost to the immune system.

    Drinking may help you boost your immune system as long as its done moderately, it may even help you avoid getting sick this flu season.

  • Try this new Gin Cocktail Recipe

    With a resurgence in the popularity of gin, here is a cool way to incorporate it into your cocktail menu. Okay so it isn’t new, but it will probably be new to most of your patrons as it was once popular in the Prohibition era but hasn’t been since then, I wonder why given that its so delicious.

    Ingredients

    • 50ml gin
    • 10ml runny honey (use the best you can, its flavour will shine)
    • 5ml water
    • 15ml fresh lemon juice

    Directions

    Stir the honey into the water until dissolved to make a syrup. Pour into a cocktail shaker with the gin, lemon juice and a couple of ice cubes. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass.

    2. If you’re visiting the USA, you must be 21 or older to drink

    3. 74% of Americans dont believe the legal drinking age should be lowered.

    4. Minimal impairment, decreased judgment and control, slurred speech, reduced muscle coordination, vomiting, and stupor are signs of alcohol poisoning.

    5. Drinking responsibly is easy – know what you’re drinking and its alcohol content, alternate alcohol with water, don’t drink and drive, don’t mix alcohol and energy drinks.

  • Driver Nearly 5 Times Over Limit in Second Run-in With Police

    Police recently spotted a man driving on the wrong side of the road and when they pulled the man over and gave him a breathalyser, they discovered that he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.246%.

    This was not the first time the man was in trouble for drink driving, he had been caught driving over the limit before.

    The man was placed on 18 months probation and disqualified from driving for the same period.

    In related news, Victorian drivers that are over the legal limit will have their cars confiscated.
