Two new weather stations in Canberra’s wine region ( at Four Winds Vineyard in Murrumbateman and at Brindabella Hills near Hall) are expected to aid winemakers producing consistently excellent wine.
The weather stations which cost $10,000 each provide new hope for winemakers in the region who have previously had to rely on data from stations at Canberra Airport and Yass, which varied drastically from the wine region.

The Canberra Riesling Challenge is being run for the 16th time and takes place at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra on Friday and Saturday.
The chairman of the event Ken Helm says that Riesling is the most underrated of all wines but it is gaining in popularity among wine lovers and restaurants.
Mr Helm said one of the greatest challenges facing winemakers was producing enough premium riesling to meet the demand.
A new study shows that alcohol consumed in moderation can help the heart, whereas too much alcohol can be toxic. The problem with this in the past has been identifying where to draw the line. But now a study has outlined how much alcohol is too much.
Researchers led by Dr. Scott Solomon, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and director of non-invasive cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and his colleagues found that too much alcohol can actually poison the heart.
