Study Shows Alcohol Can Damage Cells So Drink Wisely
A recent study has shown that alcohol can actually cause permanent damage to cells, so drink wisely.
The study helps explain the link between excessive drinking and cancer, proving that alcohol can damage the body’s reserve of stem cells.
Researchers found in mice that alcohol caused cancer by scrambling the DNA in cells, resulting in deadly mutations.
While drinking in moderation has been proven to have some health benefits, too much alcohol has a number of possible complications, so it’s important that we always drink responsibly and moderately. Can You Drink Alcohol if You Have A Cold?
We’ve all heard that you shouldn’t work out or overexert yourself when you have a cold but should you drink alcohol?
PopSugar recently discussed the issue with Dr Michael Albert, MD, FACP, chief of internal medicine, Johns Hopkins Community Physicians,to find out if drinking alcohol with a cold is bad for you.
According to the doctor heavy alcohol consumption suppresses the immune system and this could cause you to take longer to recover from the cold. You could also be more likely to develop a complication such as pneumonia.
Light and moderate drinking has the same effect but to a lesser extent on the immune system. Doctors have even found that people who drink daily seem to catch illnesses such as colds more often.
Some people like drinking alcohol when they’re sick because it temporarily reduces pain but these effects are minimal.
Also keep in mind that alcohol can react with cold medicines and put your health at risk. See more at https://www.popsugar.com.au/fitness/Can-You-Drink-Alcohol-When-You-Have-Cold-44623308

- Count your drinks and if you lose count, you should probably stop.

Older People Drinking More and Younger People Drinking Less, Research Shows
More evidence of a reduction in teenage drinking in Australia has emerged but it seems older people are drinking more.
A Deakin University study found that the proportion of adolescents reporting past month alcohol use fell from 45% in 1999 to 25% in 2015.
Despite a decline in underage alcohol use, there is no evidence of a decline for older Australians. Research shows drinking rates are stable or slightly increasing for people over 30.
Also for the first time in 2016, women in their fifties were more likely to drink at long term risky levels than younger women. See more at https://theconversation.com/young-australians-are-drinking-less-but-older-people-are-still-hitting-the-bottle-hard-90024
