  • Club Operators get Kings Cross Lifelong Ban

Two former operators of a Kings Cross club have been fined $7000 each and ordered to pay legal costs of $1500 each as well as being handed down a lifetime ban from holding a liquor license or managing any licensed venue.

According to Deputy Premier and Minister for Justice Troy Grant, a life ban was among the roughest penalties available under the Liquor Act.

While most operators are doing the right and operating within the law, there are those that turn a blind eye to illegal activities within their venues.

In this instance, the operators allowed illegal alcohol and drug sales in their venue.  Read more at http://www.hospitalitymagazine.com.au/beverage/life-bans-for-kings-cross-strip-club-operators

  • Study Finds Most Dangerous Place to Drink is at Home

According to research out of the University of New England (UNE), the most dangerous place to drink isn’t the pub or bar, it’s at home.

According to analysis of data from emergency departments spanning a decade, 36 per cent of alcohol related injuries occur at home.

The street is the second most dangerous to drink, with 13 per cent of alcohol related injuries happening on the street.

Only 10 per cent of accidents occurred at licensed venues.

According to experts, this may be due to the fact that people can drink as much as they want at home without any restrictions but at pubs and clubs, alcohol consumption is limited by responsible service of alcohol.

Although the lockout laws have been blamed for killing Sydney’s night life, a new study claims the limited trading hours have a positive impact on reducing violence.

The new global study conducted from Melbourne’s La Trobe University, stated that increasing trading hours resulted in higher rates of harm whereas restricting trading hours reduces harm.

A paper published in the Sax Institute’s Public Health Research and Practice Journal recently, involved a review of 21 related studies, including 7 from Australia.

There have been calls for the NSW government to ease the 1:30am lockout laws but the study highlights the effectiveness of late trading restrictions to reducing late night violence in the country.

  • Should You Drink Before Bed? We Question the Science

I’ve often heard people saying a nightcap actually helps them sleep better, but it appears that these people are mistaken. Drinking in the evening isn’t good for your sleep at all, especially if you drink more than 2 rounds.

According to experts, in a post on HuffingtonPost.com.au drinking alcohol in the evening will interrupt your sleep in the middle of the night. It will also cause you to be more tired the next day.

If you do intend on drinking in the evening, and still want a good night’s sleep, you should keep these points in mind,

    1. Stop after the second round.
    2. End with food
    3. Consider drinking around happy hour to give your body enough time before bed.
