  • Alcohol Violence Plaguing Hospitals In New Zealand

    According to a recent article, alcohol fuelled violence is plaguing New Zealand emergency departments with intoxicated patients, most frequently hurting themselves.

    Similarly to Australia, New Zealand is struggling to get alcohol fuelled harm under control, with one in 12 people in Australasian emergency rooms there due to alcohol.

    According to a 2014 survey, the volume of patients causing more disruption than metamphetamine.

    According to Waikatos emergency department, doctors and nurses are being exposed to alcohol fuelled violence and many patients are harming themselves, falling over and breaking bones.

    Often police with dogs and tasers are needed to calm these intoxicated people down.

    A recent study found one in eight presentations during peak times was alcohol related.

  • There’s more to Mexican Alcohol than Tequila

    Maybe you weren’t aware but Mexico’s first alcoholic offering wasn’t tequila, it was a more smoky tasting drink called Mezcal.

    Recently Mezcal has been gaining in popularity around the world and nowadays you can probably find it at the best bars in the country.

    There are some similarities with tequila, for example its also made from the agave plant that grows in the desert and strictly speaking tequila is actually a variant of mezcal. The difference is that tequila is made only from Espadin agave while mezcal can be made from dozens of different agave variations.

  • Dad with Learners Permit Caught Driving Kids while 3 Times over Limit

    A dad with a learners permit was caught drink drivin with his 2 small children in the back seat of the vehicle.

    The 36 year old man was charged with driving under the influence while 3 times over the legal limit. To make matters worse he had his 2 children in the car.

    Police pulled the man over and issued a breathalyser test which returned a blood alcohol level, 3 times over the limit. The man was arrested and charged at the scene for driving under the influence, driving an unlicenced vehicle and contravening a learner’s permit.

    The irresponsible dad is set to appear in court at a later date.

    Lion has just released the Hahn Ultra low alcohol beer with just 0.2 standard drinks per bottle.

    The beer has been described as light and crisp with a floral hop aroma and flavour, which Lion believes will still appeal to beer drinkers.

    The growing demand for low alcohol beer or non-alcoholic beer gave rise to the development of the beer by Lion, who say it has taken them 6 years to develop the right taste. They say advancements in brewing technology have paved the way for this beer, which the creators claim is sure to impress with its full flavoured taste.

    You can look out for the beer in liquor stores nationwide and in select on-premise venues, Lion said.

  • Consumers Better Understand Drinks with Diageo’s New Website

    Diageo Australia are hoping that its revamped website DRINKiQ will educate consumers about how to drink moderately and more responsibly by making them aware of the alcoholic content of the drinks they consume.

    The company said it hopes consumers will better understand how much alcohol they are drinking, especially after a survey of Australians showed that half don’t know how much alcohol is in the drink they’re consuming, this could impact on their intoxication, their behaviour and health and safety.

    The website has a useful “Drinks Calculator” to help drinkers work out how much alcohol they are consuming and how many calories are being consumed.

    The website also has some facts for drinkers and dispels some common misconceptions, such as the importance of eating before drinking, why drinking coffee to sober up wont work and mixing drinks won’t make your hangover worse.
