  • Government Crackdown on Alcohol Promotions

    Authorities in NSW are concered about what they deem as “dangerous” alcohol promotions.

    Officials say they are honing in on dangerous promotions and giant martinis and alcohol laden lollies are the latest on their radar.

    The Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing released a list of reckless alcohol promotions for the last financial year.

    Of the 100 cases investigated, the OLGR issued 44 bans or restrictions.

  • Nifty New Gadget Saves Your Bottle of Wine

    Have you ever had to throw away a bottle of expensive wine because you couldn’t finish the entire bottle and once it was opened it became spoiled? Well this new gadget may save your next bottle of wine, especially if you just want one glass and then want to save the rest.

    The gadget called the Coravin will pierce through the wine bottle’s cork, allowing the argon to pressurize the bottle. You can then pour the wine through the needle and cork into the glass.

    Once you’re done pouring simply extract the needle from the cork and the bottle will reseal, saving it from oxidization, pretty cool!

    Ingredients needed:

    • 60ml. blended scotch 
    • 22ml. lemon juice
    • 22ml honey syrup 
    • slices of fresh ginger
    • 7.5ml Isay Single malt scotch or similar

    Method:

    1. Muddle ginger in shaker
    2. Add blended Scotch, lemon, and syrup and shake with ice
    3. Strain into an ice filled old fashioned
    4. Float Islay Scotch on top

    What you need:

    • Jack Daniels
    • Coca-cola
    • vanilla ice cream
    • tall glass (or mason jar as in the pic)

    What to do:

    1. Put a scoop of ice cream into your glass.
    2. Pour Jack Daniels on top.
    3. Top with Coke.
    4. Garnish with a chocolate chip cookie.

    Voila, a delicious drink/dessert combo that will definately remind you of your childhood!

  • Importance of Responsible Service of Alcohol Highlighted in The Hunter

    The NSW government is sending a strong message to licensees that reckless alcohol promotions and the sale of alcohol to minors will not be tolerated, having sanctioned the New Castle Hotel and suspended the license of a liquor store on the central coast.

    Parliamentary secretary for the Hunter, Scot MacDonald said the government made no apologies for its actions because the wellbeing of the community is the main priority.

    These incidents highlight the importance of responsible service of alcohol and avoiding the promotion of binge drinking.
