  • Binge Drinking Raises Long Term Health Risks for Young Women

Binge drinking could be even more of a health risk for women than it is for men, according to Canadian academics.

The Canadian Cancer Society says that drinking even one more drink a day can raise the risk for breast cancer by 1.5 times. Binge drinking can also increase women’s risk for head and neck, liver and colorectal cancers.

Make sure that when you drink, you do so responsibly and stick to the recommended daily limit. Find out more here.

  • Metropolitan Pubs Do Better Than Regional Pubs

Corporate Advisory firm Ferrier Hodgson recently reported that only 69 per cent of regional pubs were confident about future trading profitability, yet the majority of pubs in the metropolitan were more optimistic.

Most of the country’s hospitality sector is booming, with pubs in metropolitan areas confident about future trading, whereas pubs in regional areas cited declining populations and the aging of hoteliers as part of the problem.

A subscription service that’s been developed by 2 MIT grads and has been running for about a year now, could be the answer to getting to know your wine preferences.

The service called Bright Cellars, asks your favourite chocolate and flavour preferences, like dark chocolate, milk chocolate, orange, strawberry, peach etc. without asking direct wine questions. It then uses an algorithm to determine what wines you would like best.

An interesting article I discovered on LifeHacker.com.au described how one can skip the college phase of drinking and drink alcohol like an adult.

Since college drinking is typically characterized by binge drinking and irresponsible behavior, this seems like a worthy endeavour.

Learning about drinks beforehand and getting to know your bartenders are some of the suggestions made, as is knowing when to stop.
