Try this new Gin Cocktail Recipe
With a resurgence in the popularity of gin, here is a cool way to incorporate it into your cocktail menu. Okay so it isn’t new, but it will probably be new to most of your patrons as it was once popular in the Prohibition era but hasn’t been since then, I wonder why given that its so delicious.
Ingredients
- 50ml gin
- 10ml runny honey (use the best you can, its flavour will shine)
- 5ml water
- 15ml fresh lemon juice
Directions
Stir the honey into the water until dissolved to make a syrup. Pour into a cocktail shaker with the gin, lemon juice and a couple of ice cubes. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass.

America recently observed alcohol awareness month and in light of this College.usatoday.com posted this interesting article about 5 alcohol facts everyone should know.
1. 8 or more drinks for women and 15 or more drinks a week for men are considered binge drinking in The USA.
2. If you’re visiting the USA, you must be 21 or older to drink
3. 74% of Americans dont believe the legal drinking age should be lowered.
4. Minimal impairment, decreased judgment and control, slurred speech, reduced muscle coordination, vomiting, and stupor are signs of alcohol poisoning.
5. Drinking responsibly is easy – know what you’re drinking and its alcohol content, alternate alcohol with water, don’t drink and drive, don’t mix alcohol and energy drinks.

Driver Nearly 5 Times Over Limit in Second Run-in With Police
Police recently spotted a man driving on the wrong side of the road and when they pulled the man over and gave him a breathalyser, they discovered that he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.246%.
This was not the first time the man was in trouble for drink driving, he had been caught driving over the limit before.
The man was placed on 18 months probation and disqualified from driving for the same period.
In related news, Victorian drivers that are over the legal limit will have their cars confiscated.

Alcohol Issues the Focus of a New Toolkit for African Migrants
A community group in Hunter, NSW has launched a toolkit to help African communities within the Hunter area with alcohol related problems. The task force is the first of its kind and will be based out of Newcastle.
They aim to provide help tackling alcohol issues among newly arrived African immigrants after it was noticed that some of these immigrants were battling with alcohol and drugs issues and settling in.

South Hedland Gets Temporary Liquor Restrictions
A spate of anti-social behaviour over the past weekend, forced police in South Hedland to resort to extreme measures. Police say they had to implement temporary liquor restrictions because of the bad behaviour of intoxicated revelers.
Incidents involved a wounding, an out-of-control gathering, reckless driving and people throwing bottles in the street.
Police introduced a restriction on the sale of alcohol and banned any takeaway full-strength liquor.They did not completely stop alcohol sales this time.

Does Your Drinking Affect Your Work?
After a survey recently revealed that 100 million hours are being lost every month in Australia due to hangovers, the question has emerged ” does your drinking affect your work?”
According to a survey sponsored by Dry July one in five Australians had taken a sick day in the past year in order to recover from a hangover.
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a drink or two but don’t binge drink or allow your drinking to interfere with your everyday life and work. This is one of the reasons Responsible Service of Alcohol legislation was implemented, so that harm caused by binge drinking could be minimised.

Bar Owner on Trial After Man Drinks Himself to Death
An incident that happened in a French bar takes the idea of Responsible Service of alcohol to whole new level. A man has been charged after a patron at his bar ” drank himself to death”.
The man, only known as Renaud, was at the Le Starter bar in Clermont-Ferrand, in central France when he allegedly tried to beat the bar’s previous record of 55 shots.
Unfortunately he died due to alcohol poisoning after being spurred on by the bar owner who is now being charged with the man’s death.
Make sure you/ your staff have received RSA training so the same thing doesn’t happen to you.

An Idea to Stop Binge Drinking
If you could stop binge drinking with a simple fix, would you?
Polo-loving New Yorkers gathered over the weekend to enjoy the 8th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo in the Park but were limited to only 5 drinks in an effort to curb binge drinking, and the behaviour that usually follows it.
Is this a policy that could work for other events and even at certain venues? Is this an ingenious way to ensure we never have to endure the embarassing behaviour of that binge drinker that inevitably makes it into every occasion?
