    As a member of the hospitality industry its important to give the customers what they want, so learning the current trends in alcohol is a good idea.

    According to The Australian Bureau of Statistics craft beer is one alcoholic beverage that is enjoying popularity among Australian drinkers as well as gin, Shiraz and Sauvignon blanc.

    Normal beer and white rum are waning in popularity and brandy sales also appear to be down.

    Malty whisky sales are up and vodka remains steady.

  • Nifty New Gadget Saves Your Bottle of Wine

    Have you ever had to throw away a bottle of expensive wine because you couldn’t finish the entire bottle and once it was opened it became spoiled? Well this new gadget may save your next bottle of wine, especially if you just want one glass and then want to save the rest.

    The gadget called the Coravin will pierce through the wine bottle’s cork, allowing the argon to pressurize the bottle. You can then pour the wine through the needle and cork into the glass.

    Once you’re done pouring simply extract the needle from the cork and the bottle will reseal, saving it from oxidization, pretty cool!

  • AMA calls on the Government to Renew Focus on Alcohol Harms

    Australian doctors are calling on the government to renew its focus on addressing the ways that the misuse of alcohol is causing harm across the Australian community.

    The AMA believes efforts from some governments to tackle alcohol  harms is moving too slowly.

  • Finding Your Best Wine Could Lie in Your Chocolate Preference

    A subscription service that’s been developed by 2 MIT grads and has been running for about a year now, could be the answer to getting to know your wine preferences.

    The service called Bright Cellars, asks your favourite chocolate and flavour preferences, like dark chocolate, milk chocolate, orange, strawberry, peach etc. without asking direct wine questions. It then uses an algorithm to determine what wines you would like best.

  • $15,000 For This Pricey Burgundy

    Looking for a good wine to celebrate one of your life’s milestones? You may want to consider the Richebourg Grand Cru. There must be a reason this is the world’s priciest wine!

    The Burgundy from the Bordeaux region in France will set you back  $15 195 (€14 254) a bottle.

    The region has reason to celebrate with it just being named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July.
