A license to serve alcohol in Australia is more commonly known as a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate. The RSA course is mandatory in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
It’s not yet a mandatory requirement for staff involved in the sale or service of alcohol in the Australian Capital Territory.
The course is delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) who are accredited by various state and territory liquor authorities. The RSA Course details how to responsibly prepare and serve alcohol, when to refuse service, how to encourage responsible drinking and how to assist inebriated customers.
