  • Club Operators get Kings Cross Lifelong Ban

    Two former operators of a Kings Cross club have been fined $7000 each and ordered to pay legal costs of $1500 each as well as being handed down a lifetime ban from holding a liquor license or managing any licensed venue.

    According to Deputy Premier and Minister for Justice Troy Grant, a life ban was among the roughest penalties available under the Liquor Act.

    While most operators are doing the right and operating within the law, there are those that turn a blind eye to illegal activities within their venues.

  • Check Out This Cool Robotic Bar

    There’s a cool new way to get your cocktails made, a robotic bartender.

    The robotic bar system, Makr Shakr is a world first, brought to Australia by International Trade and Procurement Services.

    The robot works with an app which users can enter their combinations which are then mixed by 2 robotic arms. The arms movements mimic that of a real bartender and were modelled on the movements of Marco Pelle, Italian dancer and choreographer.

    The good thing about the system is that it uses the creativity of the user and involves them in the cocktail creation process by showing them each step.

    The 2 six-axis robotic arms are capable of making as many as 120 drinks per hour from 60 different spirits.

  • Small Bar Liquor Laws- Comment Invited

    As part of a review of small bar liquor laws, Liquor and Gaming NSW is inviting feedback from the public and members of the industry.

    The review is inviting feedback on the small bar laws which affect 50 venues across the state. These bars are limited to a maximum of 60 patrons, offering many an automatic 2am trading option.

    Currently small bars aren’t allowed to provide gaming or take-away alcohol sales.

  • Melbourne gets ‘secret’ Schweppes Bar

    Bar Schweppes opened last month in Melbourne and is in its last week.

    The location was kept a closely guarded secret and those that have booked, had the location revealed to them on the day of their booking.

    According to a post on TheShout.com, the bar is managed by the team at Tommy Collins (Hawk and Hunter, Little Ox, The Pop Up Patch), the bar is an extension of Schweppes’ series, which focusses on global bar and cocktail trends.

    The food served is English including the ploughman’s platter, the chip butty, fish fingers with mushy peas and chips amongst other English favorites.
