  • How Many Men Have Drowned due to Alcohol? Study investigates

    Holidays mean time outdoors, usually at the beach, lake, river or pool but celebrations can turn deadly very quickly especially if we mix alcohol and water.

    According to research from the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS), almost 2000 men have died in water related accidents in Australia between 2006 and 2016.

    This has prompted a campaign from RLSS to change the attitude of men towards drinking alcohol around water.

    Research suggests that 500 Australian men drown over the past decade after drinking alcohol.

  • Campaign Launched to Reduce Drink Drowning

    Drinking before you swim is a dangerous activity, as one in four drowning deaths over the past 10 years has proven. According to statistics 1932 men have drowned overall in the past decade.

    This has prompted Royal Life Saving (RLS) to launch a campaign for drowning prevention, aiming to reduce the number of men who drown after drinking alcohol.

    The ‘Don’t Let Your Mates Drink and Drown’ campaign was developed with the support of the Federal Government to address the culture of drinking around water, which is more common amongst men. Research shows men are four times more likely to drown that women.

  • Three Venues Get Extended Licenses in Sydney

    There are now 3 more venues in Sydney’s CBD and Kings Cross that have been granted an extra half-hour licence extensions, in addition to the other 11 that were previously granted extensions bringing the total to 14.

    The 3 venues are

    1. The Basement at Circular Quay,
    2. O’Malleys Hotel in Kings Cross and
    3. The Republic Hotel on Pitt St.

    The extensions which we announced recently allow these venues to admit customers until 2am and serve drinks until 3:30am.

    Currently Liquor and Gaming NSW are considering another 16 applications for licence extensions.
