    A study is currently underway at the University of Wollongong investigating the effects of alcohol regulations including the lockouts in NSW that have caused such contention and recent protests.

    The impacts of alcohol and drug regulations on usage patterns, crime rates, traffic accidents and workplace productivity are being studied by academics at the university’s Faculty of Business. Researchers are also investigating the unexpected impacts of the regulations and whether laws affected crime rates in other parts of the city.

  • Turning Kitchen Ingredients into Cocktails

    It may sound unusual but if you’re an adventurous drinker this is the cocktail for you.

    The Artichoke Negroni Created by Gastronomista

    The recipe involved first soaking the artichokes in a mixture of gin.

    • 45ml. Artichoke Gin
    • 45ml. Cocchi Americano Bianco
    • 30ml. Cynar
    1. Stir with ice and strain into a low-ball glass with a large ice cube.
    2. Squeeze grapefruit peel over cocktail releasing the citrus oils and swipe the rim of the glass with the peel.
    3. Fold the peel into a petal, skewer with a quarter of a fresh baby artichoke, and float on the surface of the cocktail.  Enjoy!

  • Perfect Summer Popsicles

    Who said popsicles were only for children? As the weather heats up, our refreshments tend to cool down, so this is a perfect one to try now!

    It’s a double layered popsicle, and it looks as cool as it takes.

    To create the 1st layer:

    30ml. White Rum such as Bacardi Superior
    90ml. Coconut Milk
    60ml. Coconut Water
    Toasted Coconut Shavings to taste

    Method: Shake in a Cocktail Tin, and Pour into Popsicle Molds and let freeze.

    For the 2nd Layer:

    1 Cup Baked Cherries*
    60ml.  Extra Dark Rum such as Bacardi Black
    150ml. Coconut Milk
    20 Dashes Barrel Aged Bitters

    Method: Blend on full speed untill all fruit is chopped. Pour into popsicle molds, add popsicle sticks, and freeze.

  • Government Crackdown on Alcohol Promotions

    Authorities in NSW are concered about what they deem as “dangerous” alcohol promotions.

    Officials say they are honing in on dangerous promotions and giant martinis and alcohol laden lollies are the latest on their radar.

    The Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing released a list of reckless alcohol promotions for the last financial year.

    Of the 100 cases investigated, the OLGR issued 44 bans or restrictions.
