  • Try this new Gin Cocktail Recipe

    With a resurgence in the popularity of gin, here is a cool way to incorporate it into your cocktail menu. Okay so it isn’t new, but it will probably be new to most of your patrons as it was once popular in the Prohibition era but hasn’t been since then, I wonder why given that its so delicious.

    Ingredients

    • 50ml gin
    • 10ml runny honey (use the best you can, its flavour will shine)
    • 5ml water
    • 15ml fresh lemon juice

    Directions

    Stir the honey into the water until dissolved to make a syrup. Pour into a cocktail shaker with the gin, lemon juice and a couple of ice cubes. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass.

  • Canadian Report Says Australia to Drive Global Cider Growth

    The Australian cider industry is making its mark on the world, with a recent Canadian Market Report indicating that Australian cider will lead global cider growth.

    The report says 640 million litres of cider will be consumed worldwide, up from 2.4 billion in 2014 to three billion litres in 2020, led by production in Australia, The USA and South Africa. Source: TheShout.com.au

    1. 8 or more drinks for women and 15 or more drinks a week for men are considered binge drinking in The USA.

    2. If you’re visiting the USA, you must be 21 or older to drink

    3. 74% of Americans dont believe the legal drinking age should be lowered.

    4. Minimal impairment, decreased judgment and control, slurred speech, reduced muscle coordination, vomiting, and stupor are signs of alcohol poisoning.

    5. Drinking responsibly is easy – know what you’re drinking and its alcohol content, alternate alcohol with water, don’t drink and drive, don’t mix alcohol and energy drinks.

  • Driver Nearly 5 Times Over Limit in Second Run-in With Police

    Police recently spotted a man driving on the wrong side of the road and when they pulled the man over and gave him a breathalyser, they discovered that he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.246%.

    This was not the first time the man was in trouble for drink driving, he had been caught driving over the limit before.

    The man was placed on 18 months probation and disqualified from driving for the same period.

    In related news, Victorian drivers that are over the legal limit will have their cars confiscated.

  • One Third of adults in US affected by Alcohol-Use Disorder

    A study has found that one third of adults in the United States are affected by alcohol-use disorder.

    Alcohol-use disorder is not the same as alcohol abuse. Alcohol-use disorder (AUD) is defined as problem drinking that causes mild to severe distress or harm.

    The study found that only 20 per cent of those suffering with the disorder ever seek help.

  • Alcohol Issues the Focus of a New Toolkit for African Migrants

     

    A community group in Hunter, NSW has launched a toolkit to help African communities within the Hunter area with alcohol related problems. The task force is the first of its kind and will be based out of Newcastle.

    They aim to provide help tackling alcohol issues among newly arrived African immigrants after it was noticed that some of these immigrants were battling with alcohol and drugs issues and settling in.

  • Is Smoking Linked to Alcohol Consumption?

    New research has emerged which links nicotine use to alcohol consumption. Researchers at the Scripps Research Institute say that in rats, nicotine exposure actually promotes alcohol dependence. The same is probable of humans.

    According to the research people who smoke cigarettes have a greater tendency to drink alcohol than non-smokers. Do you agree?
