  • South Hedland Gets Temporary Liquor Restrictions

    A spate of anti-social behaviour over the past weekend, forced police in South Hedland to resort to extreme measures. Police say they had to implement temporary liquor restrictions because of the bad behaviour of intoxicated revelers.

    Incidents involved a wounding, an out-of-control gathering, reckless driving and people throwing bottles in the street.

    Police introduced a restriction on the sale of alcohol and banned any takeaway full-strength liquor.They did not completely stop alcohol sales this time.

  • Anti-alcohol videos funded by public grant deemed too offensive

    A publicly-funded campaign aimed at addressing alcohol fuelled violence in SA has been called a waste of money and too profane to air. The videos cost $50,000 to produce but have been deemed as too offensive.

    The video depicts drunken workers using homophobic taunts and crass references to oral sex and masturbation.

    There are concerns that the recommended daily alcohol limit of 2 drinks a day may be bad for the elderly.

    According to recent reports 2 drinks a day may be bad for the elderly heart.

    Elderly women in particular seem to be at risk, according to researchers. Researchers studied the habits of 4,466 people over the age of 76.

    They found that increasing alcohol intake among the elderly is associated with mild alterations in cardiac structure and function.

    It seems we’re changing the way we drink according to The Australian Bureau of Statistics.In a report recently released the nation’s alcohol consumption is at its lowest level since the 1960s.

    According to the statistics Australians are now more interested in the quality of the alcohol they were consuming, with stats showing a rise in craft beers and ciders. The consumption of wine has also increased.

    It seems Australian drinking culture has changed from quantity to quality.

  • Does Your Drinking Affect Your Work?

    After a survey recently revealed that 100 million hours are being lost every month in Australia due to hangovers, the question has emerged ” does your drinking affect your work?”

    According to a survey sponsored by Dry July one in five Australians had taken a sick day in the past year in order to recover from a hangover.

    There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a drink or two but don’t binge drink or allow your drinking to interfere with your everyday life and work. This is one of the reasons Responsible Service of Alcohol legislation was implemented, so that harm caused by binge drinking could be minimised.
